Harmonic Drive has launched the LPA 20, a low-profile rotary actuator that bundles its precision strain-wave gearing, a brushless servo motor, dual absolute encoders and a full integrated servo drive — with EtherCAT or CANopen communication — into a single compact housing.
Available across three gear ratios, it delivers continuous torque from 6.5 to 16.9 Nm and peak torque up to 57 Nm, while folding away the external drive electronics that normally add cabling and cabinet space to a precision axis.
Harmonic Drive is positioning it first for space-constrained surgical robotics, but the same case — high positional accuracy and torsional stiffness with a drive built in — is exactly what machine builders look for in compact positioner and small-gantry axes.
